Early Work

There are strong traces of early work in my later and current work. A certain grimness is evident way back then in the 60’s and 70’s and it surfaces later in some darker or starker landscapes, even if a whiff of social consciousness has abated. Spain in the early 70’s had not shaken off the effects of Civil War though the Franco regime had restored some prosperity. People were still anxious yet hopeful for a return to democracy. I tried to capture the mood of people and the look of Barcelona during a year there in a series of watercolors – exhibited and all sold by Expoart gallery in that city.
